Events in 2012 and 2013

On this page you will find records of all of the events that have been performed by the choir since it began in late 2012 through all of 2013

Date:  26th November 2012

Event:  Children In Need Carolathon.

Location:  St. Johns School Hall

Review:

Warminster Community Choir's first event since its inception in Sept 2012 was a fundraising event supporting Children in Need.  The fundraising plan was to raise sponsorship by singing as many first and last verses of Christmas Carols as could be fit into a one hour slot.  In addition, on this evening, both members and a few paying guests entry also went to Children in Need.

The evening was a two hour special with 45 mins normal practice for forthcoming events over the Christmas period, followed by 15 mins break (biscuits and chocolate).  Then the full hour of carols began.

The plan (and carol sheets) were set out for 24 carols.  At the 45 minute mark, it became apparent that we would soon “run out”.    So when we finished, a few shouts from the ensemble led to a couple of repeat performances, followed by one or two others that people could remember.

In total we had 45 people present and  £245 was raised that evening for Children in Need.

A list of carols sung is below;

  • AWAY IN A MANGER
  • ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID’S CITY
  • SILENT NIGHT
  • MYN LIKING
  • WINTER WONDERLAND
  • JINGLE BELLS

Comment from Joanna: "9 Lessons and Carols at St. Johns Church hall. A lovely event and we were very pleased to take part. The choir opened the service with Once in Royal Davids City, the soloist Andrew Middleton gave a lovely rendition of the first lines before being accompanied by a small ensemble and for the last two lines the rest of the choir. We also sang Away in a manger accompanied by pianist Chris Turner and Silent night accompanied by a flautest and clarinetist. The accoustics were lovely and the choir sang beautifully."

Date:  17th December 2012

Event:  Warminster Community Choir Christmas Concert.

Location:  St. Johns School Hall

Review:

And so it was time for the Christmas Concert.  Tickets were sold, members arrived early to set up, the stage was set (quite literally).  The audience started arriving from around 19:45 and very soon the hall was full, with the Choir at one side, the audience at the other and in between Joanna, Laura, Anna and Chris (Turner) on Piano.

Part one began on time and after Joanna’s introduction, the following were performed:

  • O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL
  • AWAY IN A MANGER
  • CASTLE ON A CLOUD
  • THE ROSE
  • WHILE SHEPHERDS WATCHED
  • ANNA PARKINSON CLARINET SOLO
  • WINTER WONDERLAND

For the interval, there was much wine (red, white or rose), non alcoholic drinks and more mince pies than the school table could cope with.  Everyone had a drink and bite to eat and a quick chat before the second half began.  The second half was a bit more energetic and fun with Christmas hats on and bells at the ready for the finale.

  • ONCE IN ROYAL DAVIDS CITY
  • MYN LYKING
  • RUN
  • SILENT NIGHT
  • WHEN SANTA GOT STUCK UP THE CHIMNEY
  • HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING
  • JINGLE BELLS

Very lively and fun versions of “When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney” and “Jingle Bells” were sang, which the audience liked a lot.  The encore was a further rendition of “Jingle Bells” with some audience participation.  During the second half, Joanna handed out special presents to the soloists, accompanists and others that had helped her over the starting up of the choir.  The evening ended and I believe was very successful for all involved.  Total raised for thw Wiltshire Air Ambulance was £215. Roll on 2013…

Comment from Joanna: "We had a lovely time hosting our first concert on the 17th December. The choir did me proud , they looked fantastic, and sang with confidence and precision. We sang a variety of songs, some very emotional, others particually demanding, and others just great fun. The embience of the concert was that of enjoyment and festive fun. The textures and tone the choir produced were fantastic and a wonderful reflection of all the hard work that they put in."
